From my manuscript: I Got Your Back 2023

I knock her up to 5th gear, cruising anonymously through the heartlands of America.  I can feel my zen coming on as I sink into that introspection that the sound of the pipes and engine provide.  I remember another quest we embarked upon where we ended up in the Grand Tetons near Jackson Hole. The mountains reminded me of home. We had decided to pitch our tent even though it probably wasn’t the best time. Looks like rain tonight, and it’s nippy. That’s ok we have our little tiny heater and warm sleeping bags. The air mattresses keep us off the ground. So we
secured everything and Tj came up with a plan. He decided to pitch the tent on top of the water proof tarp and tie the tarp onto the tent keeping the floor of the tent nice and dry. We hit the sack early feeling the first light sprinkle of rain beginning. Lovely sleep, I woke up once from a dream where I was floating. Soothed I went right back to sleep. I got a rude awakening at first light by Tj hollering “Shit, we’re floating!” I immediately woke up and realized we actually were floating around the tent on our air mattresses! WTF!! We sloshed out of our bags, unzipped the fly and got out of there in a big hurry. He realized immediately what had happened. He had made a nice cup out of the tarp and it filled up with rain and leaked through the door all night! He was beside himself, “The great pipefitter, engineer with the blue prints and physics couldn’t even see the inevitable” he says.
Well we we’re tired from the long ride, and you weren’t thinking straight honey!
So don’t make excuses for me!!
I tell myself not to poke the bear. I put a plug in it, this wasn’t the time to fight.
As we started packing the bikes
up he said to me, “shhhh, look under those trees. Not even 20 feet away was this beautiful huge white tailed doe laying in the small glade totally unafraid. Looking closer I saw the fawn with all the little white speckles and impossible big eyes. All bad blood immediately ceased
as we gazed into the eyes of
the doe. She was a gift to reconcile the little riff. Two laws we enforced with each other; 1.never go to bed mad
2. never get on a motorcycle mad
I like to think our road angels sent us a little heart throb before we swung our legs over the saddles just to make sure we would follow those natural laws.

You have a standing invitation to walk with me here, where the living is easy and uncluttered. I am retired now and finally authoring my second book. I am now uncluttered and free to pursue the life I’ve always worked toward.o
